Men’s Tennis’ Braswell wins Lakes Tennis Invite title – University of Texas Athletics –

Frisco, Texas – Texas Men’s Tennis freshman Micah Braswell won the overall title of the Lakes Tennis Invite on Sunday as the Longhorns collected six singles wins on the final day of the round robin event against Oklahoma and Texas Tech in Frisco.

Braswell finished the tournament with four singles wins worth six points each and two doubles wins at four points each for a total of 32 points to capture the title. On Sunday, he defeated two Red Raiders in Dimitrios Azoidis, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8), and Ilgiz Valiev, 6-4, 6-1. Against Azoidis, he trailed 8-4 in the third set superbreaker, but rallied for six straight points to take the frame and the match.

The Longhorns’ other four wins of the day included two by sophomore Evin McDonald – 6-2, 6-4 over Nathan Han of Oklahoma, and 6-3, 6-1 over Franco Ribero of Texas Tech. Meanwhile, transfer senior Payton Holden and freshman Leighton Allen, both Austin natives, both picked up their first singles victories as Longhorns with both coming against Welsh Hotard of Oklahoma in different rounds – 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6) for Holden, and 6-4, 6-2 for Allen.

The Longhorns are scheduled to compete next in the ITA Texas Regional Championships from Oct. 23-25 in Waco.
