Roger Federer has confirmed he’s aiming to play the Australian Open, saying he’s not experiencing pain in his right knee during off-court training.

During a recent tour of the offices of coffee company Jura, which is among his sponsors, Federer told Schweizer Illustriete that his recovery is on schedule.

“I’m on the right track,” he said. “But I don’t want to put pressure on myself and take my time. I will only enter tournaments when I am 100 percent fit. At the moment, it looks like I can come back at the Australian Open.”

Federer played the Australian Open and a South African charity exhibition before undergoing knee surgery, and then a second procedure in four months, saying he would not play again for the rest of the season.

Though training again, he’s still not back full-time on court, but says the knee has not given him any problems recently.

“Not more than two hours with the racquet at the moment. But I’ve been doing strength and conditioning with absolutely no pain,” the current world No. 4 said.

Federer is entered in the Australian Open field.
