OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton men’s basketball will play four BIG EAST games in mid-December, league officials announced today. The remainder of the conference schedule will be announced at a later date. All tipoff times and television designations will also be released in the near future.
Creighton will open defense of its 2019-20 regular-season title on Dec. 14 when it hosts Marquette. It will be the third time in eight BIG EAST seasons that Creighton will host the Golden Eagles to open conference play.
The Bluejays then travel to the East Coast for a pair of road games. CU visits St. John’s on Dec. 17 for a tilt at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. CU will stay on the East Coast for a Dec. 20 match-up in Storrs, Conn., against Connecticut, which returns to the BIG EAST after a seven-year absence. The Huskies and Bluejays have never met.
CU wraps up its pre-Christmas slate on Dec. 23 with a home game against Xavier.
Creighton has finished in the top-three of the BIG EAST standings each of the past four seasons and seeks back-to-back regular-season titles for the first time since winning back-to-back MVC titles in 2000-01 and 2001-02.
The addition of four BIG EAST games gives Creighton eight games on the schedule to date. The Bluejays will open with three games in three days in Sioux Falls, S.D., at the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic, starting with a Nov. 25 game vs. Utah. On Monday, Kansas announced it would be hosting CU at historic Allen Fieldhouse on Dec. 8. More non-conference games are expected to be announced in the weeks to come.
