Rugby team goes beyond the pitch to spread Christmas cheer – RADIO.COM

A North Texas Rugby team is going beyond the pitch and spreading Christmas cheer to those who need it most.

For the past 8 years, the Lost Souls Rugby Club has taken one elementary under its proverbial wing.

Todd Maria is the head coach and one of the founding members of the team. He says for some of the children at Adelfa Callejo Botello Elementary School, it might be the only gift they get. Many of the students are of a lower socioeconomic status.

“Our goal is make sure that every student, so approximately about 700 students, get the opportunity to receive a toy,” Todd said.

With COVID hitting families and non-profits hard this year, Coach Maria says its even more important to give back this year.

“This is definitely one of the highlights of my year, seeing the kids smiling faces of the children as they get to pick a toy,” Todd said.

This year’s drive-thru toy drive takes place in the parking lot of the Round Up Saloon at 3912 Cedar Springs Rd, Dallas, TX 75219 on December 12th from noon to 4pm. Lost Souls Rugby players will be there to pick up toys.

We’re proud to call Todd Maria and Lost Souls Rugby Club this weeks KRLD Difference Makers.
