No. 3 Women’s Tennis sweeps No. 23 Baylor, 4-0 – University of Texas Athletics –

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 3 University of Texas women’s tennis team registered a 4-0 sweep over No. 23 Baylor (4-1) in the championship round of the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Kickoff Weekend on Sunday afternoon indoors at the Edgar O. and Melanie A. Weller Tennis Center. With the victory, the Longhorns (4-0) advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships slated for Feb. 5-7 in Stillwater, Okla.

Texas grabbed a 1-0 advantage by winning a hard-fought doubles point. Baylor’s tandem of Audrey Boch-Collins and Angie Shakhraichuk earned a 6-1 win against the freshman duo of Peyton Stearns and Charlotte Chavatipon on court 3.

The No. 48-ranked duo of seniors Anna Turati and Fernanda Labraña improved to 4-0 in dual-match play this spring, winning the final four games to close out a 6-2 victory against Kris Sorokolet and Livia Kraus on court 2. UT’s freshman duo of Kylie Collins and Lulu Sun clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court 1 against Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herrero-Linana. With the match tied at 4-4, the Longhorns’ tandem held serve and then broke the Baylor pair to close out the win.

Texas closed out the dual-match win by earning three straight-set wins in singles play. No. 94-ranked Sun improved to 4-0 in dual-match play this spring with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win on court 3 against Jessica Hinojosa.

Labraña followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court 6 over Boch-Collins. After a dominant first-set victory, Labraña held a 4-3 advantage in the second set before holding serve and then breaking Boch-Collins to close out the win.

No. 125-ranked Chavatipon ran her overall season singles mark to a perfect 7-0, claiming a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court 4 against Shakraichuk. Chavatipon faced a 4-2 deficit in the opening set before rallying to win the final four games and take the first set, 6-4. Tied at 2-2 in the second frame, Chavatipon again won the final four games to close out the match.

The three remaining singles matches featuring Stearns, Turati and Collins were stopped after Chavatipon’s win.

UT returns to action when it travels to face Oklahoma on Saturday, Jan. 30. First serve is set for 3 p.m. Central in Norman. The Texas-Oklahoma match will not be considered a Big 12 Conference contest.
