Women’s Tennis Dominates Season Opener – GoShockers.com

SPRINGFILED, Mo. – Wichita State women’s tennis picked up a season opening win over the Missouri State Bears, 6-1, at the Cooper Tennis Complex.

The Shockers have three straight home matches at the Wichita Country Club. They face Newman on Feb. 2 at 11:00 a.m., Iowa State on Feb. 5 at 1:00 p.m., and Louisville on Feb. 7 at 9:00 a.m. This is over half of the currently scheduled home matches for the team.
 
Doubles
No. 23 Sarvinov Saidhujaeva and Marta Bellucco started the season off with a win over the Bears’ top duo of Darter/Sisirak, 6-3. Jie Xin Zheng received her first bit of action as a Shocker and paired up with Ting-ya Hsu to down MSU’s Burger/Nash, 6-4, on two. In the third slot, Alexandra Lazarova and Natsumi Kurahashi took care of business to beat the duo of Piskulic/Martin, 6-3.
 
Singles
Saidhujaaeva started the season off at the top spot and took care of business by being the first to finish, defeating the Bears’ Darter, 6-4, 6-3. Zheng continued to impress in her debut and looked comfortable at the four spot by winning 6-3, 6-4 over Nash.
 
The other three Shocker wins came at 3, 5, and 6. Natsumi Kurahashi went down a set at five, but she rallied back to win, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
