Three Games in Three Days for Women’s Tennis – GoShockers.com

HOUSTON – Shocker women’s tennis sets camp in Houston for a weekend full of tennis action, including matches versus Rice, No. 25 Arizona State, and AAC foe Houston from Feb. 26-28.
 
Shocker Notables

  • The senior duo of Marta Bellucco and Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva came in at No. 23 in the ITA Preseason Doubles Rankings. This is their fourth straight appearance in the rankings and highest appearance yet. They are currently 5-3 on the season.
  • Freshman Jessie Zheng leads the Shockers in singles wins with a 6-3 record at No. 4 and 5.

 
Scouting the Competition
 
Rice (4-2)

  • The Owls last competed on Feb. 6th when they defeated Texas Tech, 4-3.
  • Both Maria Budin and Federica Trevisan have four singles win on the year to pace the team.
  • The teams met last season in a 4-0 Shocker loss. The all-time series sees the Owls lead 5-1.

 
No. 25 Arizona State

  • ASU will be coming into the match off a loss to Texas Tech, 4-3.
  • Marianna Argyrokastriti has a team-best record 5-2 at No. 3 and 5 and Tereza Kolarova is 4-1 on the year at No. 5 and 6.
  • The Sun Devils feature two ranked singles players in No. 37 Ilze Hattingh and No. 115 Samantha Hampton and two ranked tandems in No. 21 Ilze Hattingh/Tereza Kolarova and No. T50 Ilze Hattingh/Lauryn John-Baptiste.
  • The programs met last season with the Sun Devils winning 5-2. That was the first ever meeting between the teams.

 
Houston (5-2)

  • The Cougars beat North Texas last time out, 4-2, after a series of weather-related postponements and cancellations. They will face Louisiana before playing the Shockers.
  • The all-time series is tied at 1-1. The teams were not able to face each other last year.

The Shockers head back to Texas next week, this time roaming around North Texas with matches at SMU (March 5,) UT Arlington (March 6,) and UNT (March 7.)
