Men’s Tennis Defeated by Late Islanders Rally – UNO Privateers Athletics

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis team got out to an early lead but could not hold off a late rally in a 4-3 loss to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Friday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Islanders got on the board first with the doubles point. A 6-2 win at flight two was followed by a late service break in a 7-5 win at flight one to put the Islanders on top. A&M-Corpus Christi was leading 5-4 at flight three when the point was decided.
 
New Orleans turned the tables with the first three singles matches to finish.
 
Max Heinzel dominated his match at flight two for a 6-3, 6-0 decision. Johannes Klein and Marcel Volz also put together straight set victories to put the Privateers to a 3-1 lead overall.
 
However, the Islanders rallied back winning a couple of key tiebreakers in the process. The first came in the second set at flight four when Pascal Lorieul rallied to win the tiebreak in the second set.
 
Borja Delgado also won a critical tiebreak in the first set of his match at flight six on his way to a 7-6, 6-3 win.
 
Kyohei Yamanaka completed the Islander comeback at flight one with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-0 victory to keep the Islanders unblemished at 2-0 in Southland play.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will host Loyola (N.O.) on Monday, Apr. 12 at the University Tennis Center.
