CHICAGO – Coach Marisa Arce and her team close out the regular season Friday at crosstown rival Illinois-Chicago.
DePaul will step onto the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts with a 9-4 record this season. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
Competing at the most difficult spot in the lineup, No. 1 singles player Aspasia Avgeri will be shooting for her 10th consecutive win while improving her 10-2 season record.
Both Marija Jovicic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva bring their identical 8-4 records into singles action on Friday with Jovicic having won her last three matches. Playing exclusively at No. 2 singles, Alina Kuzmenkova is 6-5.
Avgeri has teamed up with Maddie Yergler to form DePaul’s winningest doubles combination with a 9-3 mark at the No. 3 position. The No. 1 combo of Lenka Antonijevic and Kizelbasheva is 6-4 while the Antonijevic/Kuzmenkova duo has won all three matches.
UIC has been able to complete 20 matches during this pandemic season, going 15-5. The Flames have won 11 of their last 12 with the lone loss coming to Youngstown State.
They have gone against two other BIG EAST Conference teams, losing to Xavier 5-2 and to Marquette 4-3. The Blue Demons fell to Xavier 4-3 last week and earlier this season defeated Marquette 5-2.
DePaul and UIC share three other common opponents. UIC beat Dayton and Bradley and lost to Illinois State. The Blue Demons beat all three teams.
