When Mel Tucker took the job at Michigan State, one thing became apparent with him right away: he doesn’t stop recruiting.
Even he said it after he accepted the job. He said that he and his staff would be recruiting around the clock and with in-person recruiting returning to the NCAA on June 1, we will finally get to see just how good this staff can truly be on the trail.
While June 1 is the first contact coaching staffs can officially have with recruits, spring games are an opportunity for top targets to get to campus and tour it themselves.
For the Michigan State spring game, there is already an elite list of visitors being pieced together, led by the top quarterback target in the 2021 class, according to Justin Thind.
As you can see, the beginning list of visitors is already elite, led by the top quarterback target, top receiver target, and two of the top defensive back/athlete targets along with a couple of commits.
This is the first opportunity Michigan State will have to impress a large group of recruits in what seems like an eternity and even though it’s not official with the staff, they will get to show these kids what the atmosphere is like on game day — on a smaller level.
A big weekend for Michigan State football
As previously stated, this is the first opportunity for the staff to really impress a group of recruits in person, especially since face-to-face recruiting has been off-limits since before COVID-19 and the Spartans didn’t have spring ball last year.
This also shows plenty of mutual interest between MSU and these kids seeing as they’re spending their own money to be there as these aren’t official visits.
AJ Duffy is the top prize in the 2022 class as the staff is hoping he’s the quarterback of the future. He’s choosing between the Spartans, Arizona State, and Florida State. This visit could help swing the momentum in Michigan State’s favor.
Antonio Gates, Dillon Tatum, and Jaden Mangham are all in-state kids who are highly interested in MSU and it seems like it’ll be down to a Michigan-MSU battle for at least one of them.
This is a huge weekend for Michigan State football recruiting.
