Lions Adds Florida Southern Graduate Transfer Jalyn Hinton to Basketball Roster – Southeastern Lions Athletics

HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana men’s basketball team signed Florida Southern transfer Jalyn Hinton, third-year SLU men’s head basketball coach David Kiefer announced Thursday.
Hinton (6-6, 200, F), a senior, played the 2020-21 season for Division II Florida Southern where he averaged 20.1 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.6 blocked shots in 12 games in a COVID shortened year. The fifth-year senior also shot 59 percent (108-for-181) from the field and turned in seven double-doubles last season.
As a result, Hinton was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year while also earning SSC Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
Hinton also scored a career-high 33 points back on March 16 against Rolling University and snatched a career-high 16 rebounds the game prior against Barry University.
As a junior, Hinton’s season was equally as impressive. The Boston, Massachusetts native was second on the team in scoring (15.1 ppg) and led FSU (29-2, 18-2 SSC) in rebounding (8.6 rpg). Hinton also led the conference in blocked shots (95) leading to him being named SSC Defensive Player of the Year. Hinton added eight double-doubles as well during the campaign.
“I’m really excited about his versatility on both ends of the floor,” said Kiefer. “Jalyn is a high-character, high-academic young man with a great deal of experience that will make an immediate impact on our program.”
Hinton spent his first two seasons in college at Division I Jacksonville University of the Atlantic Sun Conference playing 64 games where he shot 62 percent (215-for-343) combined over two seasons. He averaged 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds as a sophomore for JU including a double-double against Big 10 Indiana, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Hinton joins Kansas State transfer Antonio Gordon and Denver transfer Roscoe Eastmond as part of the 2021-22 SLU signing class.
